I came from Denmark to California for my own therapy and healing. After working for 20+ years as an educator and creating a family, I decided to pursue the road to become a therapist. I've worked with a diverse range of people, families, ages and challenges in humanistic, person centered, emotion focused schools, in psychodynamic community clinic, in substance use recovery center running groups and in a treatment center for clients suffering from eating disorders and co-existing conditions. You are the one everyone relies on - the strong one. Even when you’re running on empty, you keep showing up, holding it together, and pushing through. On the outside, you look composed. Inside, you might feel exhausted, unseen, or detached from yourself. I work with adults break free from patterns that keep them stuck in survival mode. We will work on reconnecting with your needs, rebuilding self trust, and creating a balanced, authentic relationship with yourself. I bring a compassionate, steady presence to therapy; no cold stares or awkward silences. Just a real human connection, where you can feel safe enough to show up. As a therapist for the past 9 years and someone who has navigated my own share of life’s complexities, I understand the invisible weight we often carry; anxiety, depression, expectations, and the pressure to hold everything together.
Choosing the right therapist is important, so I offer a free 15-20 minute phone or video consultation to discuss your needs and ensure we’re a good fit. Ultimately, this lead me to obtain my MSW with a concentration in mental health and sub-concentration in school social work. Along the way, I have worked in many different community-based settings (mobile crisis, K-12 schools, outpatient behavioral health, drop-in centers, residential settings, and complex trauma treatment centers) serving folks from across the lifespan, witnessing so much growth and resilience along the way. Hi there! I am a licensed therapist. My work has been primary with children and young adults who have experienced high trauma. My focus has been treating depression, anxiety and other trauma related disorders.
I'm a quadruple-board-certified psychiatrist -- twice in Adult Psychiatry in Canada and the States, and 2x in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Canada and the States. I immigrated from Canada to LA in 2019 on an O-1 visa granted for my research in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive brain stimulation method to treat depression. A mouthful, I know.
While I don't consider myself an "alien of extraordinary ability" (or Melania Trump, for that matter), UCLA and the USCIS did -- who knew! After years in academia on both sides of the pond, I've left the ivory tower to be the warm, irreverent (and of course professional) psychiatrist I am, fulfilling my life's mission to do the "art of medicine".
I graduated from UCLA's Social Welfare program and developed a specialty working with adolescents, teens, parents, teachers and school administrators via the LAUSD public school system. Over the course of 15 years, I have developed an expertise in utilizing a trauma-informed lens and attachment theory to address treatment areas such as trauma, depression, parenting, parent-child relationships, behavioral issues and anxiety.
